Key Stage Four (Years 9-11)

This page summarises the topics your child will study during Years 9-11 at Sharnbrook Academy.

We are committed to delivering a high-quality education and school experience to ensure the young adults who leave our care are prepared for the next stage of their education and are ready and confident to move forward as responsible and employable citizens.

Most students undertake 10 GCSE subjects (or 8 plus a double BTEC/Cambridge National).

The Sharnbrook Curriculum delivers:

  • High-quality teaching and support through our House/Curriculum team structures;
  • A dynamic curriculum that provides a breadth of academic, artistic, technical and practical courses to meet the needs of every student;
  • Personal support for every student from their teachers;
  • Effective monitoring of student performance against challenging individual targets;
  • Robust support systems and flexible and effective intervention programmes;
  • High expectations of what every child can achieve.

Core subjects

These are subjects taken by ALL students and they consist of:

  • GCSE English* and GCSE English literature*
  • GCSE Mathematics*
  • GCSE Combined Science** (or separate sciences***)
  • GCSE Religious education* (delivery includes aspects of citizenship, personal & social development)
  • Physical education

* Studied as a full examination course leading to GSCE.
** 2 GCSEs both in Combined Science *** 3 GCSEs, one in each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics

Optional Subjects

In addition, students can select up to 4 optional subjects from a wide range of subjects which are selected ahead of the option blocks being constructed to ensure best fit each year for the students.
